We were requested recently to see if we could carry out some repairs to a log built building at the Scout Association Outdoor Centre in Trossachs area, Scotland.
The small meeting hall was built we believe about 50 years ago, by local carpenters using locally sourced timber logs. While the building as a whole is in fairly good condition, parts of one of the side walls, had logs suffering from deterioration near the base, so we had to replace the lower three courses of logs.
Now this may sound an easy task, but log building are normally built (like many others) from the bottom up, and do not lend themselves to taking the entire bottom layers out to renew. However, did this an carried out the work over three days, with a great result. The clients were delighted as well with Mr Colin Smith, the caretaker stating “I would be only too happy to endorse your company as I had no issues with every aspect of your work, and really do appreciate the time you personally devoted to our small and challenging project”.
The attached pictures do not do justice to the work involved, or the finished job, but we hope gives a flavour of the task.
